I want to study at the Art Students League because it will help me improve my art skills. I believe that being in an environment full of other artists will inspire me to practice more. At the League, I would be able to observe and study other artists’ techniques and understand how different artists utilize the tools they have. Exposure to these professionals will help me as I improve and become a disciplined artist.

“I’ll always continue to make a part of my life, whether I do it as a job or a hobby.”
While I’m still not sure exactly what I want to do in the future, it will mostly likely be related to art. In a future job, I would like to be able to do what I like for a living and have the freedom to express myself without restrictions. I can imagine myself as an illustrator or an art director, but I’m not tied to any one plan right now. Growing up, I’ve always heard that I shouldn’t make a living out of a career in the arts because it can be unstable; this has planted a seed of doubt in my mind that continues to linger. Despite this, art is something that I’ll always continue to make a part of my life, whether I do it as a job or a hobby.

I really can’t say that I’ve been influenced by one artist in particular. There are so many different artists I have encountered in my life that have impacted me. Digital art has had a big influence on me, inspiring me to bring certain details, changes, or styles to my own art. Traditional art is my first love, particularly ink and pens, pencils, graphite, and other black and white media. I really love pieces and techniques that contain a lot of detail, tiny little scrapes, hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and so on. I use these techniques quite a lot in pieces that I draw at home. Art school really forced me to use more colorful media and I’m very grateful for that. I believe attending the Art Students League will continue to push me out of my comfort zone and improve my skills in other art fields.
