I enjoy studying at the Art Students League because I appreciate having time outside of the regular school day to paint and learn from other artists. Throughout my time in high school, all my teachers have expressed that their time at the League has impacted their skills tremendously, and they’ve encouraged us to study there as well. I’ve found that the quiet environment helps me paint more efficiently.

I aspire to be an illustrator and painter. I love both conceptual and realistic works of art, but I am interested in finding more outlets for practicing realism. There have been many people who have pushed me to continue to pursue the arts and better myself, including teachers from my school. Both Richard Weinstein and James Harrington have inspired me to improve my technical skills.

My current anatomy professor, Daehyuk Sim, has motivated me to learn more about the human form and anatomy. After just one semester studying with him, I have already improved the way I deal with anatomy in my work. Taking another life drawing or painting class would continue to grow my understanding. I am also influenced by contemporary artists Mark McKenna, Tyler Berry, and Simon Davis. Looking at artists like Caravaggio and Sargent as well as contemporary artists has helped me discover more of my style and areas of interest.
