For as long as I can remember art has been a part of my life. It has always been there for me through hardship and misfortune. I was lucky in that I found art early in my life, it gave me a healthy outlet to use to work through my emotions. As I’ve grown older, art has become the central focus of my life. I’ve been making art every day for the last couple of years, and I’ve come a long way because of this commitment. I’ve made a lot of progress developing my technical skills and have been able to find more of my unique artistic voice.

Studying at the Art Students League would provide me with additional academic training and would help me grow exponentially as an artist. The Art Students League is a historic institution that has been an oasis to many of America’s greatest artists. It would be a great honor to take classes in such an institution.

As I’ve grown up, I’ve realized that I want to pursue a career in the arts as a graphic designer and illustrator. Making art is very important to me and it is not something I want to let go of as I grow older. I feel that pursuing a career in the visual arts will ensure that I stay connected to this passion of mine. The artist that has influenced me the most is Edward Hopper. I admire how his work captivates the viewer and elicits such profound emotion, even though the subject matter is oftentimes so minimal and mundane. I aspire to create a similar type of visceral emotion through simplicity, whether by choosing everyday subject matter, or depicting the subject simply.
