I want to learn from other artists and improve myself as an artist. My main medium is oil painting, and I am interested in Renaissance style art, as well as Latin American art. I look to many artists to understand my practice and develop my style. My favorite artist is Titian because the way he paints his figures and develops a sense of atmosphere creates a world within his paintings. Andy Warhol is overrated now, but his work commented on modern mass production. Cezanne experimented in his style and would go on to influence artists like Picasso and Matisse. He is considered the father of Modern Art. Today, we are entering a new era in art, that explores the relationships between abstraction, realism, and surrealism.

“Understanding iconography and symbolism in works of art has helped me improve my style and strengthen the message in my work. In my paintings, I try to focus on the earthly, the otherworldly, and the psychological.”

In the future, I would love to work in a gallery or museum, but also continue my studies as an artist. My background in art history is a major part of my art practice. Understanding iconography and symbolism in works of art has helped me improve my style and strengthen the message in my work. In my paintings, I try to focus on the earthly, the otherworldly, and the psychological. The earthly represents what we see. The otherworldly represents the heavenly or spiritual views of myself or of the viewer. The psychological is my view on the figure or object, and this is where I have the most liberty. Combining these facets together in my work reflects a surrealist view on the world, influenced by my Latin American roots and my life in New York City. To me, the community of NYC is remarkably diverse and the different views on the world have a place here.
