My name is Betty Bui-Reilly, and I am currently a sophomore studying at the High School of Art and Design. I would like to study at the Art Students League because I believe that it will help improve my ability to draw from life. Currently, my figures are very stiff, and I do not have a strong understanding of movement. With the art education that I will be receiving at the Art Students League, I believe that I will be able to capture human forms in a much more fluid and flowing manner, instead of making them flat.
“I want to continue painting and the best way to do that is to get a head start on correcting the mistakes in my work and improve.”
I still have not decided what I want to be when I grow up, but I do hope to attend a good college with a strong art education program. I want to continue painting and the best way to do that is to get a head start on correcting the mistakes in my work and improve. I hope that at the Art Students League I will learn how to create forms that can support my AP Illustration portfolio which will help me get into my dream school.
An artist that truly influenced me is actually my mentor and teacher, Mr. Brian Lee, an illustration teacher at my high school. Learning from Mr. Lee has changed my life. With him, I learned so many new techniques to create accurate structures, render, and create a balanced composition. With every new piece of advice he gives me, I am reminded that art is all around me in my life. I learn new philosophical ideas and how to incorporate a deeper meaning into my art and take this knowledge with me outside the classroom.
