Nurturing my artistic skills and creative ambitions provides a flow of positivity and growth in my life. Creating is what grounds me, what enables me to be present. This is the reason I chose to pursue Illustration at Ringling College of Art & Design. Each alla prima, conceptual painting, or tiny doodle I make connects with a greater purpose: to learn. Pursuing an education in art has given me the knowledge of how to connect with the elements around me, such as understanding the colors of leaves, flowers, and water through landscapes, or embracing the spontaneity of my surroundings

” By engaging in continuous practice, I aim to capture not only a likeness between the model and the art I create, but a personality as well.”

Art has also taught me to speak a different language, as I have been able to connect with others in a non-verbal way through portraiture. Each time I paint someone I embrace a unique experience. By studying anatomy, I can explore humanity through subjects individually. By engaging in continuous practice, I aim to capture not only a likeness between the model and the art I create, but a personality as well.

I hope to make a living by connecting with others through my artwork. Creating art that captivates otherwise inexpressible emotions makes me feel alive. It may just be the English language, but there is certainly a lack of words that express what it feels like to experience certain human emotions; such as bittersweet and melancholy. Art differs in that it can communicate the truth of human experience. Colors convey different moods; combinations of images can express unease, disgust, or happiness. It is these elements of art that intrigue me and drive me to follow this path.
Studying at the League allows me to continue improving my skills in a professional environment. It helps me produce better quality work and enables me to truly embrace practicing art during the summer.
