As an aspiring artist I want to learn how to give form to my painted figures and to evoke a sense of life to the viewer when looking at my work through figurative brushstrokes like the old masters such as Rembrandt and Sargent. Through the lessons taught at the Art Students League I will be taking a step in the path of growing my career as an artist by creating more complex compositions and artwork of a higher level and creating connections with my fellow artists.

Art is a crucial and irreplaceable part of my identity; by studying at the Art Students League, I will be discovering new territories on canvas, and about myself. I honestly don’t know what I will do when I grow up, however it will involve a heavy element of the arts. I wish to give back to the effort and support of all my Art teachers both at the League, and the High School of Art and Design through art education, painting, a mix of commercial illustration and fine arts. I want my art to leave others and myself awestruck.

One artist that has influenced me the most has to be Mr. Harrington. If it wasn’t for the early mornings in the Illustration club, I don’t think I would have been as invested in Alla Prima Painting, and oils as I am now. Another artist that has dramatically impacted my work has to be Max Ginsburg. Through his experience and insight, I learned the importance of accuracy in shape and value through observation. Through the guidance of both artists, I learned to appreciate the liveliness of the paint itself, focusing on implying details with accurate block-ins to each facial plane.
