As a budding studio artist, I must hone my skills and have a vast understanding of art styles and techniques. My art influences come from all angles, whether from tattoo artists like Natalie Hall, creature designers like Guillermo del Toro, or especially my portrait painter teacher and mentor James Harrington from the High School of Art and Design.

In addition, artists like Keith Haring have set such a brilliant example for me. His style, while geometric and simplistic, creates a complicated tapestry of important themes about love, health, and perseverance. His bold style being accepted into mainstream culture makes me feel more confident that if I push myself and my art, I can be accepted too. It is important to me that I take ideas and concepts from society and the natural world and introduce them into my art. I enjoy reflecting on my identity in my work, expressing myself, and diving deeper into the significance of the things in my life. While dissecting these parts of myself, I must come to terms with the fact I wish to have some guidance in terms of skill set and technique. I am hoping that being able to learn at the Art Students League will expose me to a new approach to art I would not have considered on my own.
